Is that what they think?
Mayawati has won the elections in Uttar Pradesh and after a long time, a party has come into power without any coalition. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has made people believe that it will bring a drastic (does that mean positive?) change in the so-called Uttam Pradesh of ex-chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav. However, it’ll take at least 2 years before people can decide how effective this new government turns out to be for UP.
Having no interest in knowing what governments promise the public before elections, I hardly know what Mayawati proposed for the betterment of UP before winning the 206 seats that she did earlier this year. But during a train journey, I came about this person from the BSP who gave me an insight of what he thinks BSP is going to do and how it is going to make India a Supreme Power in the near future.
He was a really slim guy, easily over 6 feet in height, who moreover looked more like a scarecrow with a loose pink shirt and brown pants worn in the typical Indian fashion – tight at the waist and baggy near the feet. The encounter was more like a conversation between him and 3-4 other people but to avoid confusion, I’d like to present it in the form of an unquoted interview:
Guy: In the coming Lok Sabha elections, BSP is going to become a national party, winning at least 100 seats. If we win this election, then we can show the country how dedicatedly BSP can work for the betterment of the country.
Ques: But how will you bring about changes so easily in a coalition government?
Guy: If someone from BSP becomes the PM. (Are you talking about Mayawati?) Look at India’s history. The ‘Rajah’ has always ruled in India. Look at 3000 years of India’s history (I’m listening) - be it Muslims in the 8-9th century (is it?) – then Shivaji – the Christians (now when did Christians rule us?) – Sirf Rajah ka rule raha hai – After 1947, Nehru was Rajah (I thought we became democratic!) In today’s world, the PM and the CM are the Rajah. And the way the Rajah will rule the country, so will be the Praja!! – (Awesome!)
After talking about something else (which I failed to grasp and note down) he started off with the following:
Guy: India will soon become the best country in the World. That is because India has all the raw material (I wonder why the British came to India; ‘all raw material’? Is Middle East still on earth?) So India will be the leading nation of the world. (I don’t know why he added the following) “Abraham Lincoln has tried since he is 28-30 but he lost all the time until he become the President at 60.”- (now that one is quoted!)
Ques: But the country’s development can’t be done with through politics alone.
Guy: “It can succeeded.” – (Wow!) – All big shots will lose their land. When BSP comes to power, it will take up all the land illegally acquired by these big shots and they will be worth only begging on the streets.
Ques: How will this be done?
Guy: We’ll open up all their files.
Ques: But by the time you take serious action, your term will be over.
Guy: No! We’ll take fast decisions, within 24 hours (nice!).
Ques: But the judiciary doesn’t work according to the ruling party(at least not on paper).
Guy: We will control that also - (by?) – by Equality! (What the hell?) India ko usi ne govern kiya hai jo ‘castes’ ko sambhaal paaya hai. So we’ll have people from all the different castes in the government so that there is equality and quick and ‘just’ actions could be taken. (I beg your pardon!)
Luckily (for us), he didn’t stay for too long in the train and left after telling his name as Bharat Kumar – it had to be Bharat! Who else will be more concerned about the country than its own sons?? Lol!
But really, this post is not about making fun of this person or about what he thinks about India and his party. It is the thought that what kind of people constitute India’s present political domain. How the political parties are illusion-ing young individuals and making them work for their own benefit. I’m not blaming them for not doing there work. They are at least trying to run their homeland. But sometimes, I wonder if they are working only for their home or for their land too…

Haha! good post :) How did you manage to listen to the conversation without laughing?
This conversation reveals the people in the political spectrum that have been wooed into the system. With people such as this, where do you think we are heading. We are only going to have people like this ruling the country for ages because people like us - the young educated lot don't want to take the risk of entering into such dirty politics. Howeevr one day, there will be a change. things can't remain the same always right! :)
atleast staying back home ur in tune with politics.. i cant bear to see indian papers.. its always the same crap.. governments change.. promises also change.. but the fact that they are never kept never changes.. thats why ppl choose to move on..
when i first left India.. my friends asked me.. satya.. ur causing "brain drain".. i was like.. its way better than "brain in the drain"!!
nice post btw!
I understand what this country is going to be. Everybody in this country curse the politicians but to have a better country and better politicians, we never try to take proper actions. During the elections, the upper middle class many times skips the election and the higher class rarely votes. We say we are a democratic country but do we actually mean it? The ruling government is always because of the lower class people; most of which are from scheduled castes & tribes, because they are forced to vote by some or the other way. Dude... you really had one of the non forgettable conversations....
@mithr
hey, surprised to see you commenting here..Thanks! :)
Yeah, its true...We, the educated lot needs to do something seriously about the politics in our country... something like the party which some of the IITians formed recently..I dunno if they won or not...Like someone else has commented to one of my other posts, we need some radical examples which can move the educated lot to do 'something' for their country... something like RDB :)
@Satya
Thank you sir! haha...n ur answer to your friends was really nice.. :) I'm hardly keepin my eyes on the politics going on right now..or for that matter, I've never had any interest in politics...But this confrontation with a person from the ruling party of U.P. really urged me to think and write about the paralysed condition of our political system...
@Nidhika
I think the problem lies in us waiting for the right candidate where actually the need is for us to stand up for our country ourselves and serve it in the best way we can... And about only the lower classes voting, I think illiteracy is the root cause of all such problems. If people are educated enough to differentiate right from wrong, we'll never have a leader, with several court cases against him, ruling us.
All that I want to say here is linked to all that I had commented for your previous post about the two scenarios.. so I'm not repeating stuff again!
I agree with Saru, how come you didn't laugh at his face? Lol!
And about certain people from the upper class not voting, they are the ones who fund the election campaign and in return want the politicians to help their companies with new policies and tax related stuff.. exactly what happened in this movie 'life main kabhi kabhi'..
Anywayz, nice post! Glad to see you are deviating from the 'lame jokes' banner! :)
//I wonder if they are working only for their home or for their land too…//
Loved this line! :)
Haha...yeah..its all inter-related..i know..I was just tryin to listen to him and actually hid my (smiling) face behind my register while I was scribbling all what he said in it...:)
Remember, even in RDB they showed how karan's father has links with the defence minister who cracks a deal for him to get 'cheap' equipments for airplanes...I haven't seen 'Life mein kabhi kabhi' so doesn't really know about it...
Dekha, now I'm safai-ing my blog from all the gandagi..but dun worry, Gandagi will return soon.. hehe... :P
well siddharth i must say that u manage to write on the most difficult topics with such ease..really nice post..I guess if educated, sincere people move in to politics(which they never do)then we may see some properity..otherwise...???
hey Monica,
thank you hai ji... :)
otherwise to wahi hoga jo aajkal zyaadatar jagah ho raha hai...Its time for us to leave behind small (personal) interests and work for greater goods for the country as a whole..
I hope after this conversation and Mithr's comment u know why I want to be a politician....
Do u think the problem is with e politicians or with us?? U know how my ambition is being opposed by everyone who is my "Well Wisher"... I am ready to sacrifice whatever and I have no support whatsoever... Bah!!!
haha Shubhangi, your spirit is really commendable; I have full faith in you and I know that you can succeed in achieving whatever you decide to go for...
And am I not ur "Well Wisher"? At least I am "well, a wisher" !! lol! I've never opposed you or anything but have been amazed with the confidence you have in yourself and the spirit for our country...
I know you'll do well and my Well Wishes are always with you... :)
And yes, the problem lies with us but obv, not all of us are as good at tackling people and problems (involving politics) as some people from St. Anthony's.. :P
Pesh hai, "Post Ka Post Mortem" ka agla episode! Is karyakram ke prayojak hain Nirma Super- Dhulai mein super dum, daam phir bhi kum!ting tong..lol
Ab us Pinky Pinku ne history nahi padhi to isme uska kya kasoor.. at least usko politics ka main funda to pata hai: Jo caste ko sambhala, wo desh ko sambhala! Bilkul theek bola! Because we Indians, "who are not interested in knowing what the government plans to do for us" (I quoted you) either vote our caste instead of casting our votes, or follow others as if we were rats and they were the pied piper of hamlin playing modern version of chhamma chhamma on their flutes!
Aur wo 24 ghante waali baat bhi theek bola! Agar yakeen nahi ho to pehle usse pooch ke aao jisne apne aap ko kisaan bata ke zameen kharidi thi.
achha jokes apart, politics dirty game hai, I personally think Mayawati can make a good leader, only if she stops taking revenge and focuses more on the welfare of people. hai ki nahi?
Par last mein kya senti line maari hai baap.. apun to yahi-ich office mein jana gana mana gaane waala tha.. aankhon mein glycerin bhi daalne ki zaroorat nahi padi :P
haha..Post Mortem ke liye dhanyawaad..:) It was just a humorous post...not directly siming this Pinku (as I indicated in the post also) but by the time I finished writing about him, I concluded the post by whatever came to my mind...
And yes, Mayawati ne wakai 24 hrs mein action le kar kamaal kar dikhaya..Shayad unka 'equality' funda kaam kar gaya... :)
I agree with you that Mayawati has the caliber to actually prove herself to be UP's mesiyah..only if concentrates on the betterment of UP and its public.
did he tell you what he was going to do with the land after bringing the illegal landowners to the streets? no points for guessing! looks like this guy was totally inspired by the movie 'nayak'...24 hours it seems! india will be the greatest power only if that movie is real not reel... awesome post! loved it!
hehe..thanks a lot!
but I guess BSP actually went ahead with the plan... the way they have accused Amitabh Bachchan of having illegitimate land in UP... n all those other cases going on shows that BSP is actually upto something... dunno if its good or bad for the country... but surely, rewarding for all its members.. :P
